NTF Badly Drawn Horse Notes

NTF Badly Drawn Horse Notes: 5th-11th July

The summer schedule has arrived in full force now and the racing calendar is a relentless beast at present!

Last Friday served up seven meetings… followed by eight on Super Saturday… and the pattern pretty much repeats itself again this weekend…

There are eight meetings scheduled for this Friday and another eight on Saturday… 😵‍💫🤯

Pick your spots

With that volume of racing, discipline definitely matters. You don’t need to be involved in every race… or even a quarter of them. Be selective, focus on the contests where you can see an edge, and preserve your bankroll for the genuine opportunities…

Why I like this time of year

The sheer quantity of cards is, however, a blessing for analysis. It gives me plenty of scope to dig for Badly Drawn Horses… those horses that ran well from tricky draws and who hold an upside that can pay off later, when conditions suit. As always, I track them, monitor their form, unearth the relevant stats and flag the ones worth following…

The mountain of racing means I’m constantly adding to the BDH list… another batch went out to NTF members yesterday… and here’s the latest free BDH for your tracker

BADLY DRAWN HORSE

📅 7th July – Pontefract

⭕ 4:18 – Class 5 Handicap over 1m (9 runners)

🏇

🔀 SAILTHISSHIPALONE (I Furtado)

🏇

Finished 3rd | Drawn in stall 6 (Top half of draw)

📝 1m handicaps at Pontefract on Good or quicker ground in fields of 8-10 runners lean heavily in favour of the horses drawn in the bottom half of the draw… in the period I looked at there were 87 races that met these conditions and 60 of them were won by a horse drawn in the bottom half (69% of races)… stall 1 won 18 of the races (21% of the races under analysis)… horses drawn in the top-half returned an A/E of 34% below expectation… this race saw stall ONE winning from stall TWO and they were 2L+ clear of the rest come the line…

This 5yo tried to lay down a challenge in the home straight but he couldn’t quite find enough to match the two lowest drawn runners and finished off one-paced in the final furlong…

There was still plenty to like about the effort, however, and he continued the fine form he’s shown since moving to the Ivan Furtado yard from Richard Fahey in the spring…

He’s on a winnable mark at present and he’s worth keeping on the radar for when he rocks up in a similar race to this, which was a contest that did meet his Prime Conditions of…

OR <77 | Field of <12 | Turf = 31113 (3/5, 2p – all 3 career wins)
