NTF Badly Drawn Horse Notes: 21st-27th June

A bit of a calm after the Royal Ascot storm last week… well, a bloody roasting calm!

The hottest summer of my life… or the coldest summer of my future… if it’s the latter then I might have to set up base-camp in my cellar! This Scotsman does not do heat well!! 🥵🥵🥵

Talking of Royal Ascot…

Before I post this week’s FREE Badly Drawn Horse… a quick word on one of the previous BDH’s that I posted here on the blog… the Tina Jackson trained WITHOUT FLAW…

The 5yo ran at Pontefract on Monday and was, to my surprise, relatively well backed… the reason I was surprised about that was because she really didn’t have her Prime Conditions to shoot for…

This is what I wrote for NTF members in my BDH guide on Monday…

‘(WITHOUT FLAW) Doesn’t get her Prime Conditions here… this is a Class 5 on a LH track… she is 0/18, 3p above C6 level and she is 0/8, 1p round a bend… she possibly also prefers flatter tracks… with all 3 wins coming on flat tracks and form of 0/14, 5p on tracks with undulations… and I have to leave her alone here… NO PLAY on WITHOUT FLAW… hopefully they are tuning her up for her absolute prime month of July (all 3 career wins)…‘

Result… she finished 7th of 8, beaten 5L…

To me it looked like they were running her with something else in mind… she was gunned to the front from the off and there was plenty about the run that suggested this was nothing more than a run to get her tuned up for another target… also worth noting that all her wins have come off breaks of 13-days or less and she was running here off a break of 24-days, and again, given how she was ridden on Monday, I’d just be thinking they were needing to get a run into her to get her absolutely bang spot on for her peak month of July…

She should be sharper after her Pontefract ‘effort’ and she’s one that I’m definitely keeping on the BDH list for a few more runs…

BADLY DRAWN HORSE

23rd June – Newbury

7:00 – Class 5 Handicap over 7f (12 runners)

🔀 SIGNCASTLE CITY (R Hannon)

Finished 5th | Drawn in stall 10 (Q4 of draw)

📝 There was a track bias at play at this Newbury meeting, with the straight track very much favouring those drawn low – with winners of the straight track races drawn in stalls 1-3-1-2-1 – something that was very much in evidence here, with the first 4 home drawn in stalls 2-4-3-7 (once N/R’s accounted for) and those drawn high were up against it from the off due to the significant track bias…

This was always going to be a tough task for the 6yo from his stall 10 starting position, although he did make a forward move 2 furlongs out, before struggling to maintain that forward momentum in the final furlong… I suspect it wasn’t only the draw the saw him flatten out in the closing stages as this was his first run for 31-days and all his wins have come off breaks of 25-days or less (he is 0/11, 1p off breaks of 26+ days), as such he should come on for this outing…

He’s handicapped to be winning at present, and I have Prime Conditions for him as…

PC = OR 83 or less | C4 or less | Feb – Aug | DSLR 25 or less = 2324512312111 5/13, 6p – all 5 career wins)
